Why Does My Knee Still Hurt?
Simply put: Your lifestyle day to day has remained the same.
Picture it. You’ve spend the last 15 years in an office staring at a computer screen. The only time you get up is to transfer to a conference room where you sit for a meeting to review the meeting you had last week. When you get home, you’re exhausted mentally and starving because you spend most of your day sipping coffee instead of water or actually eating a full meal. After gobbling down dinner, you transfer to your favorite spot on the couch to catch the latest episode of The Great British Baking Show on Netflix. (Don’t poo poo it. It is one of the most wholesome, endearing shows out there right now) You then get up the next morning and repeat that entire cycle over again until you’ve exhausted all episode of TGBBS… and move onto the next series.
Gradually, over time, you realize that your back begins to hurt and you develop headaches. You start by taking the occasional Advil, which then increases to daily doses and the addition of other meds to mitigate the pain. You may even go to the doctor where you are prescribed steroids or other medications to further mask your symptoms. Finally, at some point, you end up at the Chiropractor’s office. You do find that you feel better after treatment, but notice that ultimately after a few weeks the same issues tend to return.
If you continue doing the same things in terms of your day to day lifestyle, there isn’t a single type of treatment that is going to completely solve the issue. Our bodies are not designed to be sedentary all day long.
What is the Solution?
The bottom line is – lifestyle modifications are absolutely crucial to breaking a pain cycle. You cannot keep doing the same things expecting a different result.
